c) has a first-hand personal story about the children at the detention camps
d) is a migrant willing to speak publicly (without using your name if you wish to remain anonymous)

to speak (or sing) for 3-5 minutes at the Arlington Heights Lights for Liberty July 12th event (7:00 pm – 9:00 pm)

First things first ~
This is a peaceful protest. No swearing or foul language on signs. This will be strictly enforced.
I can’t emphasize enough that you are NOT to engage with anyone who starts yelling out their window. It does nothing but create a scene.
Let’s keep this clean and make a good impression. You’ll probably make a friend or two here.

If you’ve never attended a protest before, here are a few tips that might help you feel more comfortable…

When you arrive, you don’t have to check in with anyone.
Take your beautiful self to the street and START LINING UP along Northwest Highway SINGLE FILE. When you find your spot, introduce yourself to the person next to you. Don’t be shy! Keep about 5 feet between you otherwise cars will not be able to read your signs. And stay at least 3 feet from the curb. Drivers can get distracted by all the signs and people. I’ll be on the southwest corner of Arlington Heights Rd and Northwest Highway. It doesn’t matter what side of Northwest highway you stand on as long as you remember to FACE the traffic with your signs. 😉

The next huge impact is when we light our candles at 8:45 for the vigil. To witness possibly HUNDREDS of candles lit by peaceful people standing for hundreds and hundreds of feet along the highway will speak volumes. Imaging YOU driving by hundreds of people in a line holding candles in the dark. You wouldn’t ever forget it, would you?

The dollar store sells battery operated candles and batteries for a buck. I suggest those in case it’s windy. Some dollar stores also have some good foam signboard for a buck also. Be creative! Just keep it clean. Kids will be there as well as in cars driving by.
Bring something to drink. Take pictures!
Although this is a somber event, I hope you feel good about your decision to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.
I hope to see you there.
You won’t regret it.
Thanks!
