April Climate Change meeting .. 4/26 @ 7 PM .. Presentation by Cynthia Segura, Carbon Free Buildings Coordinator at the Citizens Utility Board (CUB)

April 26, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Most Illinoisans heat their homes by burning a fossil fuel–“natural” gas–right on their property. But with soaring gas prices and increased extreme weather events caused by climate change, it’s increasingly clear that the status quo with natural gas heat is unsustainable from both a financial and environmental point of view.
Cynthia Segura, Carbon Free Buildings Coordinator at the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Illinois’ premiere utility watchdog group, will be here to talk about building electrification, the next big fight facing us now that the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) has passed. She’ll also be ready to answer questions about CEJA implementation, solar, and current utility programs designed to help customers save money and energy.
Cynthia Segura is a Carbon Free Buildings Coordinator at Citizens Utility Board. She joined the organization in March 2021 as a part of the outreach team, with a focus on solar, energy efficiency, and building decarbonization. She works in educating the public on all things utility policy related. She also participates in various policy and stakeholder meetings to stay up to date on the rollout of new renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2020 with a B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Science.
