Headlines for the Month

Nationally 2,400,000 Jobs Created in the past year
Illinois added 51,400 and now has more jobs than before the great recession
Learn the facts about the economic recovery nationally and the status of ongoing appropriations challenges at both the state and national level.
We have added about 2.4 million jobs in the last 12 months. The July jobs report will come out Friday, August 5th. In June the (U-3) unemployment rate was at 4.9%, while the U-6 rate was 9.5%. While down from a high of 17.1% during the downturn, this rate is still higher than the 8.4% in the fall of 2007 before the Great Recession of December 2007 to June 2009.

Illinois is now operating with partial (six month) appropriations. The revised jobs report for Illinois shows job gains for 2015 of 51,400.

Bring your articles and other topics. Come join us for some exciting discussions.

Then come join us for continued discussions at Lou Malnati’s after 9:30 pm. While OFA may not be political, we can discuss what is happening in the general election at Lou’s.

Look forward to a good group and some interesting discussions this month on the 16th.

NWSOFA Diversity Outreach Working on CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM
Last year, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed bipartisan legislation to address much-needed sentencing and prison reform bill. S. 2123 is a bipartisan bill that represents an important first step toward addressing some of the causes of the racially disparate, unsustainable growth in the federal criminal justice system. It has been five months since the bill was put forward and it is long past time for the full Senate to vote on this important bill. Senate Republicans still have not moved forward on the bill, which has widespread, bipartisan support.
ACTION you can take:
Call your senators and tell them the time is now to support the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act (S. 2123) and to urge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring it to the floor for a vote.
Guidance and sample script language can be found here . We do not have phone bank lists at this time, so any action would be a direct call to your Senators or the Senate Majority Leader’s Office

Do you have a few dollars to spare to support our Progressive movement @NWSOFA Supplies, Newsletters, Databases, etc?

It’s time to Act .. It Is Time To Get Involved
Over the years the American Citizens have lost their voices, believing that we can not make a difference.  We have been beat down by the constant droning noise of the conservative right. This onslaught has made us like sheep .. afraid to express our views.  Not anymore!  OFA gives us back our voices and by working together we are making change one issue at a time. Together we can and will make a difference.
