The NWSOFA Fiscal and Economic Issues group will meet VIRTUALLY on Tuesday, May 17th at 7 pm. The Zoom room will open by 6:50 pm. Come join us and share your thoughts.

David and Karl will be updating the fiscal and economic data between now and May 17th:
3rd estimate of 4th quarter 2021 real GDP grew at annual rate of 6.9%; 1st quarter 2022 releases April 28th

431,000 jobs added in March, plus prior months revised up by 95,000; unemployment rate declined to 3.6%; April jobs numbers will be released May 6th.

March twelve month inflation increased to 8.5%. April’s CPI numbers will be released May 11th

If the trends hold, employment and GDP data will be good but inflation will still be high, although it may start to come down in the second quarter. Spending and the deficit will come down by about $1 trillion in fiscal year 2022, Biden’s first budget year, which ends September 30th.
