Urgent Climate Zoom May 27: Defend Clean Vehicle Standards—Act Now with Linda Trey! 7pm central zoom

Speaker Linda Trey, Community and Partnerships Organizer, Clean Transportation Program, Union of Concerned Scientists

Join Us for an Urgent Climate & Environmental Zoom, May 27th@7 pm central, With guest speaker Linda Trey, Community and Partnerships Organizer, Clean Transportation Program, Union of Concerned Scientists

_We are thrilled to welcome Linda Trey for an engaging and timely presentation on the latest efforts to advance clean vehicle standards and protect public health in Illinois._

Pollution Control Board and the critical role of community voices

Linda will share insights into the ongoing work of the Pollution Control Board and the critical role of community voices in shaping environmental policy.

This week, Linda brings an important update: the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has recently submitted a 70-page comment in opposition to adopting new clean vehicle standards. Disappointingly, the IEPA’s comments, which draw from outdated federal officials and industry sources, fail to recognize the significant public health impacts of vehicle pollution. Linda will discuss what’s at stake, why science-based standards matter, and how you can take action.

Public comments are open until Friday, May 16th, and everyone is encouraged to submit a rebuttal urging the Board to prioritize science and public health. Whether you’re a first-time commenter or a seasoned advocate, your voice matters!

Don’t miss this opportunity to get informed and get involved.

no throne, no crowns, no Kings

Prepare for the June 14th March Day: no throne, no crowns, no Kings_

Chant anti-royalist memes to end our political monarchy.

Share the inspiration sona, #WakeUpUnwokeAmerica, to counter alt-right media neo-terrorism.

As President Trump plans a military parade for his 79th birthday, pro-democracy coalitions like Indivisible, 50501, Black Voters Matter, and Stand Up America are organizing protests in over 1000 cities,

Participate small groups(3-4 people) micro dose dialogues to advocate to end corruption:

– Federal-sponsored kidnapping of people and illegal deportations of immigrants.

  – Violations of the Constitution and court orders

  – Civil rights and human rights abuses

   – Cuts to human services and health care

   – Threats to social security

   – Tax breaks to the ultra-rich elites

What will we explore? How might we:

– Understand how alt-right media neo-terrorism induces the cult trance?

– Take short-term actions fighting against what we disapprove of, and align our actions with the long-term aspirations of what we are fighting for?

– Use social media effectively before, during, and after the No Kings’ March, to prepare for flipping the mid-term elections?

_Together, we must heal the Divided States of Unfair America and regenerate our planet._

“Guns Down America” + IL GVP Updates

Our Guns Down America speakers – https://www.gunsdownamerica.org/

Our Guns Down America speakers – https://www.gunsdownamerica.org/ – will definitely inspire you – and fill you with a sense of hope as they share what they are doing and what each of us can do to make a difference in these unpredictable and changing times._

Started in 2016 to highlight how the gun industry utilizes the gun lobby, politicians and corporate America to “push” their product into our society, Guns Down America – and the work they are doing – is vital in addressing the public health crisis we are facing:

“Guns Down America is taking back public life from the gun industry. We champion consumers and challenge corporate control to get the churches, grocery stores, bars, music festivals, and other places we get together back from the shadow of the gun violence epidemic.”

We will also hear from several survivor speakers, including Maria Pike and Shundra Robinson, who will both share about their current work in the Chicagoland community to provide support and encouragement to fellow survivors and their families.

And as we do each month, we will have time to discuss state gun violence prevention legislative updates, gun violence prevention related news stories and share strategies on what you can do to take action to help create safer communities.

“Join Indivisible Illinois & NWSOFA-indivisible to help us call voters in the

3 Republican congressional districts in Illinois

Join Indivisible Illinois to help us call voters in the 3 Republican congressional districts in Illinois to let them know that their GOP congressperson is planning to make deep cuts to Medicaid, and what that would mean for them and their communities.

These congresspeople are:

Mike Bost (IL-12),

Mary Miller (IL-15)

Darin LaHood (IL-16).

You do not have to be an Illinoisan to participate. This is the plan of the congressional GOP caucus. This is in the works in all of our states.

We can call voters in these 3 congressional districts as part of a bigger project to make calls to voters in other states as well.

If you have never phone banked before, we train. You will need both a phone and a computer for this phone bank.

You should be on a notebook or computer with Internet for this to be most effective.. will be difficult with a phone only..

Depending on interest, we may offer follow-up sessions to dive even deeper. We look forward to seeing you there!

From Indivisible / Urgent Actions needed:

– House Republicans just voted for a tax bill that does real harm to working Americans—slashing Medicaid, food assistance, and threatening Medicare to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires. It’s a cruel, upside-down set of priorities that puts the ultra-wealthy first and working families last.

Indivisible is organizing phonebanks every Wednesday and Thursday in June.

– But this fight isn’t over yet. The Senate is up next and we have a plan to block this bill.

– We’re helping voters in key states call their senators and demand they reject this dangerous bill. We’ve used this tactic before—and it works. Back in 2017, grassroots pressure like this helped stop Republicans from dismantling the ACA.

– If we turn up the heat again, we can block this bill in the Senate—or force changes that send it back to the House, where it faces an even tougher path.

– Let’s remind Congress who they work for. Make some calls .. Starts June 4 /5th..
