“Gun Violence Prevention Supporters and Friends,”

Outstanding line-up of speakers

Two very important legislation in Illinois related to

– reopening unsolved homicide cases (Cold cases) and

– increased transparency in homicide data: Homicide Victims Families Rights Act (HB4743) and Homicide Data Transparency Bill (HB4754).

In addition to providing information about these bills, the speakers will let us know what we can do to help get them bills passed in the Illinois House and Senate. Each speaker will also share her story with us.

Our first speaker will be Alicia Schemel whose father was shot and killed in 1999 while driving to pick her up at work – a case that has never been solved. Alicia is a member of the Everytown Survivor Network and a volunteer with the Illinois chapter of Moms Demand Action. She will also present data showing why the proposed legislation is needed.

Rhiannon Jimenez who has worked for gun violence prevention in the Chicago area for a number of years advocating for common-sense gun legislation at both the federal and state levels. She will explain the proposed legislation in more detail.

Marsha Lee, Millie Burgos, and Val Burgest, each of whom is a survivor who lost a child to gun violence.
