Fiscal Issues
Special Report
on
Jobs & The Economy
by Karl Faulstich, NWSOFA Fiscal Co-Lead
NWSOFA Fiscal & Economic Team met this last Tuesday night to discuss the BLS July Labor Report and the Updated Budget and Debt
Tuesday night we had a very interactive meeting … discussing the status of the economic recovery, including the July 2014 jobs report (June 2014for IL data)
Some selected notes:
○ We are recovering, but we haven’t fully recovered yet. Labor Force up 1,960,000
since Jan 2008; Marginally attached up 800,000 since January 2008 (2.2 million).
○ Don’t put too much emphasis on a single monthly report. Look instead at longer
term trends. (Except for you stock traders).
○ We set a new private sector jobs record in March and set a new total jobs record
in May. Setting new records each month
Karl noted, This is not complete recovery nationally, but still a significant milestone
nonetheless. A full recovery nationally will likely occur in 2015 and that IL’s recovery is lagging the national recovery by about two years.
GDP growth was 4.0% in 2nd quarter, up from minus 2.1% in 1st quarter. It appears
that the negative 1st quarter result was just an anomaly, primarily due to the harsh
winter in much of the country

Climate Change
Special Report by Joe Salvato
Team Meeting held this last Thursday @ Rolling Meadows, IL 60008
Joe Salvato lead a planning session for assigning volunteers to local farmers markets, public libraries, and community colleges in the Northwest suburbs, to gather petition signatures supporting the EPA Clean Power Plan Proposal recently released
Issue:
No matter how much climate change deniers in Congress drag their feet, the science behind climate change is conclusive — it’s already happening, and it’s on all of us to fight back. President Obama’s proposed new carbon pollution standards are a huge step in the right direction — they’ve been called “the strongest action ever taken by an American president to tackle climate change” — and we’ve got to fight for them, because dirty special interests are going to be pushing back hard.
Action Request:
Everybody who cares about climate change should stand up in support of the President’s aggressive action today. If you do sign the petition, you will get a follow-up email asking you to forward the petition to family, friends and acquaintances. Email Joe, augjas2@cs.com and ask to be assigned to gather petitions over the next two weeks… Bill and Sara will be at the Arlington Heights Library gathering petitions 4-6 pm (just before the Fiscal Video).
