Sorting Soup: A Book Club for Resistance & Resilience

THURSDAYS / SUNDAYS – Zoom .. Thursday’s @5:00 / Sunday’s @4PM CT Zoom

Feeling overwhelmed by the scale of what we’re facing? You’re not alone. That’s why Sorting Soup has evolved into a space where we do more than just talk about the news—we read the blueprints, name the patterns, and build the knowledge we need to resist authoritarianism with clarity and purpose. We’re currently a dedicated book club diving deep into two essential guides for this moment: Randy Allen Walker’s Project 2025 Survival Guide, and for balance Stewart “Brittlestar” Reynolds’ Lessons from Cats for Surviving Fascism. These aren’t just books—they’re survival manuals, organizing tools, and invitations to understand exactly what’s being built around us so we can dismantle it together.

Sunday Seconds: Go Deeper, Catch Up, or Just Breathe

Missed Thursday? Need more time with the material? Just want to process with a smaller, quieter group? That’s what Sunday Seconds is for. Every Sunday morning, we reconvene to revisit the previous week’s reading in greater depth. We slow down, pull out the quotes that hit hardest, highlight contributions from first-time speakers, and make space for the reflections that didn’t quite fit on Thursday night.

Together-Stop Gun Violence: Local Voices-National Impact

Thursday, February 26 at 7 PM CT / 8 PM ET – Zoom

Join us for our **Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) Team meeting** for an important and timely conversation about the future of gun safety in our state.

Welcome **Jenny Levin**, the Democratic candidate running for the Illinois **51st District State Representative** seat currently held by **Nabeela Syed**.

Jenny brings a deeply personal perspective to this issue. As a **registered nurse**, she has seen firsthand the devastating impact of gun violence while working in emergency rooms. Those experiences have shaped her commitment to strong, sensible gun violence prevention policies that protect our communities and save lives.

During this meeting, Jenny will share her views on preventing gun violence through **public health, community engagement, and legislative reform**. She’ll also discuss how her background in healthcare informs her priorities as a candidate — and why this issue remains one of the most urgent challenges facing Illinois families.

Together, we can continue working toward a safer Illinois and country —one household, one conversation, and one policy at a time. Don’t miss this important meeting!

Each month, WHILE WE FOCUS ON IL, we share National news and legislation as we gather to honor those affected and to renew our commitment to fostering safer neighborhoods.

One Day Is Now

Young Voices Build Stronger Democracies

Saturday, February 28th @2PM central / 3PM eastern – Zoom

Join us on for this inspiring Zoom conversation that reminds us: *the next generation isn’t waiting—their one day is now.*

While political engagement often peaks later in life, younger generations are redefining what activism and civic participation look like. Recent polling shows younger adults are significantly less likely than older adults to follow politics very closely, yet many still pay some attention—leaving a large opportunity to deepen engagement and participation._

Indivisible’s NorthWest Suburbs of Chicago (NWSOFA) invites you to a dynamic discussion with young leaders who are already shaping the future. Rather than talk *about* youth civic engagement, we’re listening directly *to* the voices at its center.

Together, we’ll explore the daily experiences of young adults, how they navigate a digital-first world of information, and what keeps them motivated amid the challenges of today’s America.

Panelists—**Sabrina Welch** & **Ishaan Srivastava**

Our panelists—**Sabrina Welch**, a high school student and founder of *Mind Tricks: The Magic of Neuroscience*, and **Ishaan Srivastava**, a college student, political activist, and host of *The Ishaan S. Show*—will share their journeys, values, and visions for a more inclusive democracy.

_Their stories highlight how Gen Z is mobilizing peers, balancing hope with realism, and forging meaningful paths to change._
