data center regulation,
Tuesday, May 26th @7pm Central / 8 pm Eastern
They’ll discuss where Illinois lawmakers currently stand on data center regulation, the growing impact on energy costs and the electric grid, and why advocates are mobilizing for the May 30 Lobby Day in Springfield to push for passage of the POWER Act._
Sunday, May 31 marks the end of the 2026 Illinois legislative session — and the very next day, ComEd and Ameren customers are expected to face another significant increase in electricity supply costs.
For the second year in a row, Illinois families and consumers are paying the price for speculative data center energy demand while lawmakers debate whether meaningful protections for ratepayers will finally move forward.
Scott Allen, Energy Policy Specialist with CUB, has worked on Illinois energy policy through the development of CEJA and now focuses on equitable clean energy transition policies and consumer advocacy.
Emilee and Scott will provide a brief presentation on the risks posed by unchecked data center growth, solutions proposed in the POWER Act, and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and join the discussion about protecting Illinois ratepayers and advancing clean energy policy.
Don’t miss this one. Bring your questions — this is exactly the kind of informed, grounded conversation our movement needs right now.
