_Tuesday, May 19th@7 CDT – Zoom: Fiscal & Economic April Rev’w- 13 Yrs running – Longest US Economic Discussion running..

Chaos Continues: Jobs, IRAN War,Tariff Wars, ICE, HeathCare Crisis, Affordability / Inflation,

Biggest news is the war in Iran and its effect on prices/inflation, especially gas prices. National average of $4.54 as of May 15th.

Continued slow job growth since April 2025. The combination of Trump’s tariffs and the „deportations contributed to the low job growth.

The employment numbers are flirting with a recession:

– Payroll job growth under Trump: 1st term -2,765,000; 2nd term to date +369,000; Combined -2,396,000

– Employment growth: 1st term -2,331,000; 2nd term to date -983,000; Combined -3,314,000

– Fed continues to be concerned about both the low job growth and inflation.

– The combination of the low job growth and the higher inflation creates a quandary for the Fed. Third rate cut in December, rates unchanged in January

– Earlier jobs data from April 2024 -April 2025 appears to be overstated by 911,000

– Core 12 month CPI inflation in March was 2.6%. Core 12 month PCE inflation in March was 3.2%

_We will be discussing the current polices that are driving the current economic chaos.._[

“White Christian Nationalism .. Race, Religion, and Politics””

Wednesday, May 20th @7pm Central / 8pm Eastern = ZOOM

_American democracy is facing a growing threat from White Christian Nationalism—a movement claiming divine authority over political power while undermining the independence of Black churches and denying the reality of systemic racism rooted in our nation’s history._

Join NWSOFA for a timely conversation with Joel Edward Goza—author, minister, and community advocate focused on the intersection of race, religion, and politics. Goza challenges the “white consensus” that shapes both conservative and liberal politics, offering a deeper analysis of power, justice, and democratic possibility.

Goza has served as a professor of ethics and director of academic partnerships at Simmons College, an HBCU. He also brings more than a decade of experience in urban redevelopment and educational reform in Houston’s historic 5th Ward. His writing has appeared in Salon, The Hill, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, and he is the author of *America’s Unholy Ghosts* and *Rebirth of a Nation*.

“From Action to Self-Care:

Powering Our Communities”

Thursday, May 21th @7:30pm Central / 8:30pm Eastern – ZOOM

_Join SWW as we welcome summer with a conversation centered on Positive Plans & Self-Care—because in challenging times, our communities continue to show up, support one another, and lead with resilience. We’ll shine a light on the real work happening at the local level, from townships providing food pantries, free transportation, senior services, and utility support, to the ways our communities are stepping up where federal systems are falling short._

We’ll also share important updates on Eva and Enes (Detained by ICE in Sept), along with ongoing efforts to protect our neighborhoods from ICE and support those facing housing insecurity in a time of unattainable mortgages and rising rents. These are the realities many are navigating—and together, we’ll stay informed and connected.

And just as important, we’ll make space for you. We’ll explore five simple micro-habits for self-care, inspired by Dr. Kim Foster, designed to bring more calm, focus, and joy into your daily life. What does self-care look like for you? Come ready to reflect, share, and support one another.

– What causes and actions should SWW take on to make a difference in the lives of others?

Keep your passion and compassion alive. Thank you for all you do.
