“Immigration, Human Rights

& the Fight for Our Democracy”

Thursday February 19th @7PM central / 8PM eastern – Zoom

_As harsh enforcement tactics and new restrictions reshape immigration policy, basic rights and democratic values are on the line. This session makes the case for welcoming immigration as a vital engine of our economy and communities, highlights how abusive ICE practices threaten civil liberties, and examines how today’s policy choices are hurting workers, families, and the rule of law while we push for humane, pro‑democracy reform._

Immigration policy is shifting at breakneck speed, and decisions made in Washington this week will have lasting consequences for families and communities across the country. In this Zoom session, Ed Spire, Co‑Lead of NWSOFA-Indivisible’s Restore Our Democracy Team, will unpack what’s happening right now – from ICE’s ongoing violations of basic rights to the high‑stakes fight in the Senate over funding the Department of Homeland Security and demanding real reforms.

Ed will lift up the bigger story behind the headlines: that immigrants are essential to the strength, dynamism, and future of the United States. He will talk about how immigrants fuel economic growth, fill critical jobs, and help sustain communities in Illinois and across the nation – even as this administration works to limit immigration, choke off legal pathways, and spread fear that harms businesses, workers, and neighborhoods alike.

Finally, the session will connect these policy battles to the broader fight for democracy and human rights. Participants will hear how abusive enforcement tactics and unchecked ICE power threaten civil liberties and the rule of law, and why a humane, pro‑immigrant, pro‑democracy agenda is vital to protecting all our freedoms. Attendees will leave better equipped to talk about immigration with friends and neighbors, and ready to take action for just, accountable, and welcoming policies.

Black History Month Panel

Freedom’s Foundations

Leadership, Legacy, and the Fight Forward

Monday, February 23rd @7:30PM central / 8:30PM eastern – Zoom

Join Indivisible Illinois for a dynamic virtual conversation honoring the leaders, movements, and everyday changemakers who have shaped our democracy and those carrying that work forward today.

At a time when history is being challenged and hard-won freedoms are under pressure, this panel will ground us in the truth: progress has always been driven by courageous leadership, community organizing, and a relentless demand for justice.

We will hear from students, community leaders, elected officials, and historians who are making an impact right now, advancing equity, protecting civil rights, strengthening democratic institutions, and building power in their communities. Together, they will reflect on the legacy of those who came before them and share how that legacy informs the work ahead.

This conversation is about more than remembrance. It’s about responsibility. It’s about organizing. It’s about the fight forward.

Whether you are a longtime advocate or just getting involved, this event will leave you informed, inspired, and ready to act.
