“The future of the Mahomet Aquifer”

Protect the Mahomet Aquifer: IL Must Ban CO2 Storage Under Our Sole Water Source, 4/29 7pm CT Zoom

Presenters: Pam Richart & Lan Richart, Co-Directors: Eco-Justice Collaborative

Join NWSOFA-Indivisible Climate and Enviromental group for an urgent community discussion on the future of the Mahomet Aquifer, featuring guest presenters Pam Richart and Lan Richart, Co-Directors of the Eco-Justice Collaborative.

Illinois state-proposed ban on storing CO2 beneath the Mahomet Aquifer

They will address the state-proposed ban on storing CO2 beneath the Mahomet Aquifer-a vital water source for nearly one million Illinois residents-and explain why this issue is at the heart of climate and environmental justice efforts.

The Mahomet Aquifer is the lifeblood of Central Illinois, supplying clean water for homes, farms, and industry. Designated by the EPA as a sole-source aquifer, it is irreplaceable: if contaminated, there are no other economically feasible alternatives for the region’s drinking water. Recent legislative efforts and local moratoriums underscore the urgency to protect this critical resource from the risks posed by carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects.

CCS may seem promising for climate action, but storing highly pressurized CO2 underground comes with serious risks. Leaks can occur through well failures, abandoned wells, or even earthquakes-releasing CO2 that forms carbonic acid and leaches toxic heavy metals like arsenic and lead into the water supply. The only U.S. EPA-permitted Class VI sequestration project, ADM Decatur, has already experienced two leaks, raising real concerns about the safety and oversight of such technologies.

Pam and Lan Richart bring decades of experience in environmental advocacy, land use planning, and ecological assessment. Their work has helped shut down polluting power plants, remove coal ash from waterways, and stop dangerous CO2 pipelines.

On April 29, learn how you can join the movement to protect the Mahomet Aquifer and why Big Ag and Big Oil’s push for CCS-with taxpayer subsidies-puts our water and health at risk.

Don’t miss this crucial conversation for our community’s future!

“Wake Up Unwoke America: Understanding

“Deranged Trump Mass Psychosis”

Are you alarmed by the growing influence of alt-right propaganda and its effects on our democracy?

Join us for a candid, solutions-focused conversation about “Deranged Trump Mass Psychosis” (DTMP) – a term describing how chronic exposure to disinformation can rewire minds, fostering rigid, cult-like thinking and making it difficult for people to break free from harmful narratives.

This event is designed for anyone who wants to understand and address the roots of political indoctrination with empathy and practical tools.

We recognize that the phrase DTMP may sound provocative, but our intention is not to blame or shame. Instead, we approach those affected as victims of a powerful propaganda machine, manipulated by tactics that exploit fear, paranoia, and tribal identity.

Our discussion will focus on empathy, “tough love,” and actionable strategies to help friends and family rediscover critical thinking and independent perspectives.

What will we cover?:

– How to discuss DTMP without alienating or antagonizing loved ones:

– How AI, creative learning, and even music can help de-indoctrinate and heal communities

– Steps we can take together to defend democracy from the dangers of mass political indoctrination and restore trust in truth and each other

Join us for an engaging session where all attendees will participate in two 15-minute micro-conversations in breakout rooms. Each room will host 3-4 attendees, fostering meaningful discussions across 50 rooms.

Let’s unite with radical candor, humility, and compassion. Together, we can wake up America and rebuild a culture of healthy, independent thought. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the movement for a more informed and resilient democracy.
