Every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. CDT, Sorting Soup—our Thursday edition—is a weekly space to make sense of the nonstop firehose of news. Together, we sort through major headlines, court decisions, policy developments, cultural moments, and the stories competing for our attention. Bring your questions, useful context, and curiosity as we distinguish what is urgent, what is meaningful, and what deserves a closer look.
Sorting Soup is also a place to process what the news brings up. Through honest conversation and critical thinking, we make room for frustration, concern, hope, and determination—while connecting national developments to the realities in our own communities. The aim is not simply to keep up, but to leave with clearer shared understanding and a stronger sense of what we can do next.
Each gathering continues our focus on Self-Care as Radical Resistance. We will share a short self-care message recognizing that rest, boundaries, connection, nourishment, and care for our well-being are not distractions from meaningful work; they are how we sustain ourselves and one another for the long haul.
Through the November 3 midterm elections, we will also emphasize community-facing voter engagement. We’ll highlight tabling opportunities, explore adaptable voter-education tools, and identify practical calls to action each week—from sharing trustworthy information and inviting neighbors into the work to helping build the participation essential to a healthy democracy.
